Recordings and compositions
The recorded-music and publishing activities serve different parts of the music business: recordings on one side, songs and songwriter relationships on the other. UMG’s organisation includes major labels, Universal Music Publishing Group, Virgin Music Group and other specialist businesses. It produces, distributes and promotes music while investing in new talent and established catalogues. [1]
The group and its operating centres
UMG’s corporate headquarters are in Hilversum and its operational headquarters are in Santa Monica. Those are explicitly different functions in the company’s own description. Its international offices and business units work across recording, publishing, merchandise and audiovisual content, so the listed parent’s geographic reach is much broader than either headquarters address or any one local label.
