IMAX

IMAX supplies cinema presentation technology and works with filmmakers and studios to prepare films for its large-format theatre network. Its business connects content owners with exhibitors through remastering, projection and sound systems, and continuing support for installed equipment.

From filmmaking to the screen

The IMAX offering combines cameras and certified production workflows, proprietary film remastering, large screens, laser projection and multichannel sound. Its network gives studios a specialised release format across many cinema operators. Streaming and consumer technology extend parts of the company’s image-processing expertise beyond theatrical exhibition. [1]

Two sides of the business

Content Solutions earns revenue from film remastering and distribution, including a contractual share of box office. Technology Products & Services supplies exhibitors through system sales, rentals and maintenance. Revenue-sharing installations and outright equipment sales therefore have different economics: ticket demand matters alongside the timing of new installations and upgrades. [1]
